GOOD WORK LADIES. For those of you who were not at the last meeting, our ladies auxiliary were formally installed. Officiating , President Sandra Bloom, Dept. of MD. Mid-East Div. Vice President Mary Ellen Naples. The ceremony was held at the conclusion of our meeting. Refreshments were served and all had a great time. Those interested in joining the auxiliary should contact Dawn at 410-551-7846 or through DawnforMCLadies@aol.com. The department meeting was held 9/14/02. We were awarded a National Jr. Vice Commandants Citation for exceeding the previous years membership. Thanks to all of you who went the extra mile to recruit new members. Our detachment hosted the event at VFW Post 160. I want to give thanks to Ed and Linda Ross, George Martin, Carl Schultz (a new MCL member) and Rose Hole (VFW auxiliary member) for helping get everything in place for the meeting. Our MCL raffle ticket sales of the $300.00 jackpot is going very slow. VC Airey needs your help in getting these tickets sold. Marines, we have a job to do and I know we can do it. OOOOHRAH!!!!! Come out on Friday nights and support our detachment and the VFW. The MCL and Ladies Aux. provide a Friday night meal once a month here at the post. The VFW also provides a great meal the other Friday nights of the month. All meals are deliciously prepared for about $5.00 per plate with the exception of some specialty food which runs a little higher. Since the VFW allows us to share their facility, it is only right that we support them also. The dinners are served from 1800-2000. Bar bingo follows at about 2000 hrs. with some great cash prizes. It is great to see that our own Jake Jahelka has reopened the kitchen for light lunch fare with a great menu and great portions of fine food at a ridiculous low price. As some of you are aware I also don another hat,
that being the House Committee Chairman here at the Post. From time to
time we ask for volunteers to help with various duties and projects. We
could use a FEW GOOD MEN to lend a hand on Saturday and Sunday mornings
from about 0730 to 0930 to clean the lounge and hall. The more help we get
the less time it will take. Usually after we finish, Bob Hole (VFW
Commander will whip up a "Bloody Mary") or Ray, Jake or Don will whip up a
great breakfast for all workers to enjoy so just show up at the door. If
you cannot make both mornings, that s OK. One will be greatly appreciated.
If you have any specialties in plumbing, electrical or carpentry we can
sure use your expertise also. |

Just a reminder that I still have some unsold tickets
available. Please call me at 410-255-9129. Marines I cannot do it all
myself. I need help. We are committed to support our fellow Marines and
members of the community and with some of these projects, it takes money. |

If I haven't already done so, we would like to welcome Marines Bill Morrow of Dandily, Warner Sumpter of Pasadena, our first official lady Marine DeLoa Cline of Spokane, WA., and Associate retired Navy Chief, Tom "Skip" Cline of Glen Burnie.
Marines, I know there are other Marines out there, some probably living
next door to you. I see Marine stickers on car and truck bumpers and rear
windows constantly so I know we should be able to recruit more members
into our fold. I need your help. there are life memberships available.
This could save you money over the years. 18-40 yrs. $250, 41-50 yrs.
$200, 51-60 yrs.$150, 61 yrs. plus $75. These rates are not going to last
much longer. I have heard that yearly rates in other parts of the U.S. are
requesting that their dues be increased. I certainly don't anticipate that
ours will increase anytime soon but it is a possibility the new life
member applications may increase. Once you apply and pay for life
membership you will never have to pay again no matter how they increase.
Also you don not have to worry about being bugged to pay your dues every
year. We now have 27 life members in our detachment. Come on aboard
Marines. Bring in that new member, friend, neighbor, relative, etc. |

I am
happy to report that since our last meeting the majority of us are in
pretty good shape for the shape we are in. Al Newton is progressing very
nice since his heart by-pass. Kenny Rollins is also progressing since his
knee surgery. Just received word that Marine Karl Dungans wife, Karen has
been ill but is improving. Fred Downey is almost back to his normal self
after his heart operation a couple of months ago. we need more
communication between us. If you know of anyone who is sick or in need of
help, please call me at the above number. I have an answering machine so
leave a message if I am not home |

Can you believe this??????? Bremerton, WA., Lena Swanson stole $300,000.00 from veterans, including former POW's over a period of 5 years while employed with the VA. She pleaded guilty to one count of receiving unlawful payments. Sentenced to 4 months in prison. Spent the money gambling and personal expenses. Justice ?????? Waiting to see a VA doctor???? State of Florida has a backlog of 42,000 cases, 17,000 in Tampa alone. At a VA facility in St. Petersburg, a woman watched as a doctor told her husband to get our of his wheel chair and climb onto the table. The patient stated he could not do it without help. The Dr. gave him a brief examination while still in his wheel chair and entered on the report that the patient refused to climb onto the table. An Atlanta woman, Sarah Prater pleaded guilty to bilking the VA out of 11 million dollars using info from dead vets. She took European vacations, purchased homes, cars and light aircraft. She shared this fortune with a few unnamed associates who conspired with her to spend the money. All are yet to be sentenced. At the end of the Reserve obligation, the records are forwarded to the SMRC. The St. Louis fire of July 12, 1973 destroyed approx. 80% of the records of ARMY veterans who served between 11/1/1912 and 1/1/1960 except for retirees who were alive on 4/12/1973. 75% of AF personnel with surnames of HUBBARD through the letter Z who were separated between 9/25/1947 and 1/1/1964 except those retired or in reserve status.
