tickets it would be appreciated if you could send in your money ASAP. Item

profit affair for the Detachment. |

As you know Monday, 11 November will be Veterans Day.
The Detachment will assist the VFW Post 160 in a remembrance ceremony at
several locations in the Glen Burnie area. Those of you who wish to attend
should report to the post no later that 0700. We will car pool to those
locations for the wreath laying ceremony. Also memorial services will be held at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery at 1100. We would also like to have as many from our detachment as possible to attend this service. This pas Memorial Day our detachment accounted for the majority of veterans attending. I hope we can exceed that by twice the number of the 11th. The American Legion Post 7 at Crownsville serves a delicious platter after the services for veterans and their families and guests. At 1300 the Annual Glen Burnie Parade kicks off and we would like to see a large turnout for this parade so bring the family to watch and be prepared to march with us in the parade. Wear something MARINE, hat, jacket or what ever. We will meet at Corcoran School and enter into the
parade behind the detachment fire engine at Crain Hwy and Thelma Ave. Tom
Unkle has been the coordinator of our participation in the parade so don't
let him down. Everyone that can make it will be greatly appreciated. |

Steve Salanik is chairing the "TOYS for TOTS" drive
this year. He is asking that starting this next meeting night, 28 October,
everyone please bring a new toy, unopened for a needy child of any age. DO
NOT WRAP THIS TOY. It must be new in its original carton. This is not the
rule of our detachment. The USMC sets the rules since they are the
sponsoring unit and answers to all the legal aspects. Read more on this
from Steve on the attached page. (see below) |

Members of the detachment attended (2) funeral services
during the month of September and October. One a Retired Marine Col. and
the other, an Army veteran whom most of us knew. Thanks to all who showed
their respects. The families were very appreciative. |

Toys For Tots I met with Gunnery Sergeant Futrell of the 4th Combat Engineering Battalion to discuss what our Detachment could do to support their Toys For Tots campaign. They gunny stated that Staff Sergeant Brown was in charge of the campaign this year and he was his assistance. They do now set out boxes anymore, but ask businesses to set up their own depending upon the size of the space they have available. He would like us to assist them in picking up toys from participating local businesses. We would need to use vans or covered pickup trucks because of the unpredictable weather during that period. All pickups must be completed by December 17th. We can also collect toys and check (no cash) from local businesses, friend's etc. Checks should be made out to Toys For Tots. Our Auxiliary has volunteered to assist us with this campaign. Thank You Ladies. I will collect any toys or checks that members wish to bring to the next two meetings. I also have some posters, pins, rulers, bumper stickers and cups for us to use to get the word out. If anyone would like to help or has a van or covered pickup truck we could use, please let me know. I can be reached at 410-923-2517 usually after 4 PM weekdays and anytime most weekends.
